Wings of Fire: Winters Wandlung

Winter hesitated for a moment. Why did he agree to this? An Icewing warrior didn't need help from anyone else, least of all a pack of misguided dragons from other tribes. Mother and Father would be more than disappointed in me. He could clearly see their faces in front of him - the look they got when he did something wrong. The look that said, If only we'd lost you instead of Hailstorm. If only you were everything an Icewing should be. With a rattle of his spines, he shook the rain off his tail, rose into the storm, turned in a circle, and headed off into the rainforest without glancing at the other dragons.

Winter zögerte einen Moment lang. Warum stimmte er dem zu? Ein Eisflügler-Krieger brauchte keine Hilfe von jemand anderem, am wenigsten von einem Rudel fehlgeleiteter Drachen aus anderen Stämmen. Mutter und Vater wären mehr als enttäuscht von mir. Deutlich konnte er ihre Gesichter vor sich sehen - diesen Blick, den sie bekamen, wenn er etwas falsch gemacht hatte. Der Blick, der sagte: Hätten wir doch nur dich verloren, statt Hailstorm. Wenn du nur all das wärest, was ein Eisflügler sein sollte. Mit einem Rasseln der Stacheln schüttelte er den Regen von seinem Schwanz ab, erhob sich in den Sturm, drehte sich im Kreis und machte sich auf den Weg in den Regenwald, ohne einen Blick auf die anderen Drachen zu werfen.
