Jim is a sweet-natured dog who lives alongside Sir Henry Cole in a magnificent London museum. He's a passionate reader, which is why he's so saddened that his eyesight is failing. When he spots a monocle during one of his errands to Buckingham Palace, his heart leaps, and he can't resist. Emma Thompson tells the story with wit and charm, not only about Jim, but also about the first printed Christmas card and all the things associated with Christmas – including compassion for animals and people. It's a great pleasure to see how she weaves this story, based on true events, with a touching Christmas tale – and how brilliantly it's illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the illustrator of The Gruffalo.
